Classic Jewel at Juhl a Gem of a Family-Owned Bar

June 22, 2020

Thirty-something Ryan Brown is a true city slicker.  The Las Vegas native and Centennial High School graduate left home in 2004 to attend Arizona State University, moved to Atlanta to work for the Atlanta Spirit, ownership for the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks and National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers (now the Winnipeg Jets). She then moved to the Big Apple where she worked for iheart radio in a national advertising position.  While she relished her urban lifestyle and flourishing career, Brown also longed to return home to her Vegas roots.

Upon visiting her mother, Sherri Lewis, a successful real estate broker and owner of Vegas Living Realty, along with Lewis’ business partner, Jerome Harry, Brown made the decision to come full circle. Together, they hatched the idea for Classic Jewel because the area lacked a “Cheers” style lounge – a place where literally everyone knows your name. “It was a cool and memorable family moment,” said Brown of the decision to make this neighborhood bar a reality.

So, in 2015, she relocated to the place she calls home, but with a big twist.  Instead of moving back to the “burbs” where she grew up, Brown moved to Juhl in Downtown Las Vegas to better suit her ‘walk everywhere’ and live/work lifestyle.

Brown and business partner, Harry, own and operate Classic Jewel on the ground floor of Juhl, an iconic 344–residence, loft-style community in downtown that spans an entire city block.  A popular cocktail lounge that serves up drink options that pay homage to Vegas of yesteryear, Classic Jewel is a staple of downtown’s thriving nightlife scene and an anchor of The Promenade at Juhl, the community’s ground-floor retail offerings.

For Brown, growing Classic Jewel into the downtown gem it is today is only half the story.  She has been living for years in the Juhl lofts. And just this year, she decided to make it permanent by purchasing the loft outright, along with the adjacent live/work space next door. With virtually no commute, Brown has more time to enjoy life, which includes visiting the area’s many coffee shops like Mothership and Bad Owl, eateries like Simply Pure at Downtown Container Park and boutiques like Neon Cactus Vintage. Her other favorite downtown spots include Greens & Proteins just a few doors down and nearby Eclipse Theatre.  Everything, she says, is within walking distance, and that’s just how she likes it.

The two live/work spaces at Juhl purchased by Brown and Harry are indicative of a growing trend sought by sole proprietors and entrepreneurs seeking a simplified urban lifestyle that offers a more seamless transition from work life to real life. At Juhl, there are currently 13 other such two-story, live/work spaces available, spanning nearly 2,000 square feet and priced from the $600,000s.

The two ground floor spaces, which are zoned for commercial use, each have approximately 950 square feet of open space ready for customization. This spacious work area features high ceilings; large windows providing an abundance of natural light; concrete flooring, commercial-type glass door entrance, rear entrance, and a half-bath. The second-floor units of similar size both offer a spacious, fully built-out one-bedroom studio with a separate entrance, 10-foot ceilings and large windows, contemporary and spacious living area, full balcony and roomy bedroom with large closet and adjacent luxury bathroom.

Residents of Juhl have access to onsite amenities and services that surpass resort-style living, including dedicated concierge, 24-hour security, monthly lifestyle events, two-story fitness center with Strip views, resort-style pool with cabanas, summer kitchens and grilling stations, Alfresco movie theater, a 10th-floor wine and viewing deck, electric car charging stations and more.

Juhl includes dozens of floor plans that are literally one-of-a-kind, with studios starting in the low $200s.  Private balconies, 10-foot ceilings, energy efficient design and details, exposed concrete surfaces and mechanicals and upgraded fixtures and surfaces all combine to create Juhl’s cool urban vibe.
